Five-Day Boot Camp on Mobile Photography Kicks Off at Amity School of Communication

Lucknow— A five-day Boot Camp on Mobile Photography, organized by the Centre for Media Studies, Amity School of Communication, commenced today with great enthusiasm on the university campus. The event saw the participation of 25 students from La Martiniere Girls’ College, all eager to sharpen their mobile photography skills.

The workshop is being led by Prof. ( Dr. )  Sanjay Mohan Johri, Professor Emeritus and Head of the Centre for Media Studies. With decades of experience in visual storytelling and media education, Prof. Johri and senior photojournalist and media academician Trilochan Singh Kalra is guiding participants on how to turn everyday mobile clicks into compelling visual narratives. The program is designed to bridge the gap between casual photography and creative expression using smartphones — a skill increasingly relevant in the digital age.

In addition to hands-on training sessions on composition, lighting, framing, and storytelling, the boot camp includes a one-day heritage walk, where students will get the opportunity to explore the city’s rich cultural heritage and capture the essence of Lucknow through their lenses. This immersive experience aims to instill an appreciation for local history and train the eye for detail and context in visual media.

Speaking at the inauguration, Prof. Johri emphasized the importance of mobile photography as a democratic tool in today’s media landscape. “A good story doesn’t always require expensive equipment. All it takes is an observant eye and a sense of timing. That’s what we aim to teach through this camp,” he said.

The boot camp reflects Amity School of Communication’s commitment to innovative and practical media education, equipping young learners with skills that combine creativity, culture, and technology. The workshop will conclude with a photo exhibition of the participants’ work, celebrating their journey from amateur clicks to expressive storytelling.
