Lucknow: With the aim of making the general public aware of the importance of groundwater and motivating them for water conservation and water enrichment, like every year, this year also Groundwater Week was started in all the districts of the state from 16 to 22 July 2024 with the theme “Make an effort to conserve water – water is the hope of life”.
The program was inaugurated by Jal Shakti Minister, Uttar Pradesh, Swatantra Dev Singh on 16 July 2024 from Samajik Parivartan Pratik Sthal (Marine Drive) intersection in Lucknow, in which a large number of students, teachers, parents of various schools / colleges, non-governmental organizations working in the field of water conservation and storage participated.
On this occasion, the Minister flagged off a rally of school students based on the theme “Walk for Water”. Under the leadership of Special Minister Padma Shri Uma Shankar Pandey, Jal Kosh Yatra was also started by the Minister in the development blocks covered under Atal Bhujal Yojana and sent to Mahoba district.
Through Jal Kosh Yatra, Jal Chaupal will be organized at the Gram Panchayat level in 26 development blocks of Mahoba, Hamirpur, Chitrakoot, Banda, Jhansi, Lalitpur, Meerut, Baghpat, Shamli and Muzaffarnagar between 16 July 2024 and 10 September 2024 to make the public aware of groundwater management methods, protection of groundwater sources, conservation and measures to prevent misuse of water.
In the inaugural ceremony of Ground Water Week, a beautiful cultural presentation based on water conservation was made by the students of City Montessori School, Kanpur Road branch. In the program, a street play based on “Rahim Pani Rakhiye…” was performed by Water Aid, which is doing remarkable work in the field of water.
On this occasion, Madad Educational and Welfare Society also presented a popular play on the subject of water conservation, which spreads the message of the importance of planned use of water and saving of water provided by nature to the general public.
Jal Shakti Minister, Government of Uttar Pradesh, while discussing the usefulness of water conservation and storage through his address, thanked the Prime Minister of the state and the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh that under their guidance the vision of “Water for every home” and “Water for every field” is being realized.
The government is also trying to use the groundwater resources judiciously, manage it in a planned manner and ensure better adoption of the methods of groundwater conservation. Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra dev Singh appreciated the meaningful efforts being made by all the school-college students, teachers, non-governmental organizations working in the field of water and the Groundwater Department present at the inauguration ceremony of Groundwater Week and directed to maintain the continuity of this campaign. In the inaugural ceremony of Ground Water Week, Shri Rajesh Kumar Prajapati, Director, Ground Water Department, Uttar Pradesh, thanked the Hon’ble Minister of Water Power, Padma Shri Uma Shankar Pandey and other dignitaries on the stage, representatives of various institutions, students and teachers of schools and colleges for their gracious presence and for the praiseworthy work being done in the field of conservation and storage of ground water. The program was conducted by Shri Anupam, Executive Engineer, Ground Water Department.
