Lucknow: Lucknow’s Diwali shimmered with more than diyas and fireworks—it was a festival powered by pixels, processors, and purchase power. From Hazratganj’s neon-lit showrooms to the sleek outlets of Gomti Nagar, electronics stores overflowed with customers chasing festive offers on smartphones, televisions, and home appliances. The festival, ignited a surge in consumer spending, supercharged by GST 2.0 reforms that cut rates by up to 5% on gadgets, turning big-ticket items into irresistible buys.

According to trade estimates, local electronics and electricals turnover hit ₹18 crore during the Navratri–Dhanteras stretch, a 24% jump from ₹14.5 crore in 2024—outpacing the city’s overall festive commerce growth of 20–25%.

Uttar Pradesh alone contributed a staggering ₹48.4 lakh crore to India’s record ₹6.05 lakh crore Diwali bonanza, with electronics claiming 8% of national sales, translating to ₹484 crore statewide. Lucknow’s share was estimated at ₹50–60 crore, marking one of its best festive runs in recent years.

Smartphones led the charge. Nearly 15,000 units were sold locally—a 30% year-on-year spike—fueled by mega online campaigns like Flipkart’s Big Bang Diwali Sale and Amazon’s Great Indian Festival, which offered discounts of up to 80% on models such as the iPhone 16 and Samsung Galaxy S25. Counterpoint Research pegged India’s overall festive smartphone sales at 46 million units, a three-year high. In Lucknow, mid-tier hubs like Vijay Sales and Croma together dispatched 5,000 Android and iOS devices in the first week alone.

“GST cuts made premium phones affordable again—we sold over 2,000 units on Dhanteras itself,” said Pawan Manocha, general secretary of the Lucknow Vyapar Mandal, noting a 25% retail spike across the electronics sector despite online competition.

Home appliances followed the same trajectory, notching ₹7 crore in sales. Air conditioners and refrigerators from LG, Samsung, and Whirlpool dominated, with 3,500 units sold—a 25% rise—fueled by no-cost EMI options and exchange deals. Reliance Digital’s “Festival of Electronics” logged 1,200 AC bookings, while Bajaj Electronics drew crowds with 40–80% markdowns on washers and dryers. Televisions, a Diwali staple, saw 4,000 units sold, primarily Samsung and Xiaomi 4K Smart TVs, with prices down by 10% post-GST reduction.

The city’s growing IT workforce also drove a 20% spike in laptop and accessories sales, as professionals sought upgrades under up-to-70% markdowns. The cumulative effect? Lucknow’s electronics trade clocked its strongest Diwali since 2021, according to the All India Mobile Retailers Association (AIMRA), mirroring the national 10% value growth.

E-commerce may have cornered 40% of the pie—Flipkart alone routed 6,000 online orders through city warehouses—but offline retail thrived, too. “Consumers still love to touch and test gadgets before buying, especially for TVs and refrigerators,” noted Kailash Lakhyani, AIMRA president.

Interestingly, women-led purchases rose by 20%, with many opting for smartwatches, earbuds, and compact kitchen appliances. Economic momentum added to the glow: festive bonuses, repo rate cuts, and Lucknow’s expanding service sector enhanced purchasing capacity. Improved logistics via the Purvanchal Expressway accelerated deliveries and reduced costs.

Yet, a few sparks flickered. Chip shortages delayed around 15% of premium TV orders, and analysts predicted a post-festival slowdown by mid-November. Still, local dealers mitigated the crunch by pre-stocking inventory up to 60 days in advance.

Digital-first offers, like Flipkart’s ₹99 electronics pass, converted first-time buyers, while stores reported a 30% rise in app-based pre-bookings.

From ₹14.5 crore to ₹18 crore in just a year, Diwali 2025 turned Lucknow into a city truly wired for celebration—where tradition met technology, and every spark spelled prosperity for a brighter, smarter 2026.
