Hapur/Lucknow : In a rare and heartwarming moment, a father and son from Hapur have both secured selection in the Uttar Pradesh Police force and received their appointment letters together at a formal event held in Lucknow.
Yashpal Nagar, a resident of Udayrampur Nangla village in Hapur’s Dhaulana Tehsil, and his son Shekhar Nagar, have both successfully cleared the UP Police constable recruitment examination. On Sunday, the duo travelled to the Defence Expo grounds in Lucknow to receive their appointment letters, where they proudly congratulated each other upon their achievement.
Yashpal, a former Army Ordnance Corps personnel, served the Indian Army for 16 years before retiring in 2019. He had rejoined the Corps in a civilian capacity in Delhi post-retirement but decided to resign and take on the challenge of joining the UP Police alongside his son in 2024.
The two had been preparing for the police exams together for nearly three years, regularly attending a local library to study side by side. Their dedication paid off as both cracked the competitive recruitment process purely on merit.
Before departing for Lucknow, the father-son pair gathered at Hapur’s Navin Mandi with other selected candidates. During the pre-departure briefing, SP Kunwar Gyananjay Singh learned of their unique story and extended his congratulations, praising their dedication and commitment to public service.
Speaking with pride, Shekhar shared that his mother Anita Devi is a homemaker, while his sister Neha is pursuing her education and his younger brother recently cleared his 12th-grade exams. He also revealed that he continues to prepare for other competitive exams, including CDS and the Uttar Pradesh Sub-Inspector recruitment.
The success of the duo has created a wave of joy in their village, where locals are celebrating their rare joint achievement. Both Yashpal and Shekhar are now set to begin their police training later this month — together, once again, this time as proud recruits of the Uttar Pradesh Police.
