Faruk Kabir on ‘Salaakar’: “I Often Shoot Action Scenes Myself”

Mumbai | The much-anticipated web series Salaakar is all set to premiere on JioHotstar, directed by Faruk Kabir and featuring an exciting cast including Mouni Roy, Naveen Kasturia, and Mukesh Rishi. Blending patriotism, espionage, emotions, and intense action, Salaakar promises to deliver more than just a high-octane thriller — it offers a deeply personal journey of its central character.

What sets Salaakar apart is its approach to action. “For me, action isn’t just about fights,” says director Faruk Kabir. “Every punch, chase, and fall represents an emotion — whether it’s love, fear, anger, or heartbreak. It has to feel real, not rehearsed.”

Kabir, known for his meticulous direction, often ends up shooting many of the action sequences himself to preserve their authenticity. Recalling his experience with actor Vidyut Jammwal, he shared, “I once told him — forget everything you’ve trained for and fight like a man from Lucknow whose heart has just been broken.”

Set in 1978, Salaakar follows the journey of a man aspiring to be a spy. Along the way, he stumbles, gets hurt, and makes mistakes, but continues to move forward — a raw and relatable portrayal of resilience. “This is a story of a hero who finds courage through his flaws. It’s not just about heroism — it’s about a heartfelt, emotional battle,” adds Kabir.

With a gritty storyline and emotionally charged action, Salaakar is poised to captivate viewers when it drops later this month.
