“Fans Were Great”: Trump Responds After Jeers at US Open Final

New York | US President Donald Trump faced a mixed reception at the US Open final on Sunday, where his arrival delayed the much-anticipated clash between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz by nearly 50 minutes due to heightened security measures.

As Trump appeared on the big screen during the national anthem at Arthur Ashe Stadium, applause quickly gave way to loud jeers. The boos continued when he reappeared later, with some spectators visibly leaving their seats during the delay. Social media showed long queues and empty seats as fans waited to re-enter.

When asked about the crowd’s reaction, Trump replied sarcastically, “I loved it. The fans were fantastic,” while praising the players’ performances. He added, “That’s usually considered a progressive audience these days, but they were great.”

The moment echoed his 2015 visit, when Trump was also jeered while attending a Williams sisters’ match.

On court, Carlos Alcaraz triumphed over Sinner in a four-set battle, reclaiming the world No. 1 ranking.
