New Delhi — In a swift and coordinated operation, the Special Staff of East District and PS Laxmi Nagar police busted a fake police gang involved in an audacious robbery in the heart of Delhi. Eight accused were arrested within 24 hours of the incident, and stolen cash, mobile phones, a laptop, and two cars used in the crime were recovered.
The Incident
On June 27, 2025, 31-year-old Salman, an insurance policy agent from Shastri Park, lodged a complaint stating that four men posing as members of the police’s Special Staff entered his Laxmi Nagar office on June 26. They looted his laptop and mobile phone, and then abducted and assaulted him in a Hyundai Venue car, forcing him to transfer ₹1.5 lakh, including ₹70,000 online, under the threat of falsely implicating him in an insurance fraud case.
Following the complaint, FIR No. 187/2025 was registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at PS Laxmi Nagar.
Crackdown and Investigation
A dedicated team led by Inspector Jitendra Malik (Special Staff, East District) and local police under the close supervision of ACP Pawan Kumar and overall guidance of senior officers was constituted to handle the high-stakes case.
Using CCTV footage and technical surveillance, five of the accused were intercepted on the night of June 28, while travelling in the Hyundai Venue used in the crime, near Noida Link Road. In a follow-up operation, three more accused were arrested from different parts of Delhi. Another vehicle, a Honda City, was also recovered.

Modus Operandi
Investigations revealed that Hunny Kumar, a former employee of the complainant, harbored a personal grudge and provided inside information to Sunny Sharma, who then roped in his associates to stage the fake raid. Sunny Sharma, it was learned, had previously been arrested in a cyber fraud case in Ghaziabad. Co-accused Ankit Jain was also found to be involved in two other criminal cases.
The group impersonated police officers to gain the victim’s trust and compliance, exploiting legal fear to extort money.

Citizens are advised to ask for valid ID and immediately report any suspicious activity or impersonation attempts to the Police Helpline (112) or the nearest police station.
This operation highlights the crucial role of alert citizens, prompt policing, and technical surveillance in tackling organized urban crimes. Further investigation is underway to identify any additional links and prevent future impersonation-led crimes.
