Lucknow: Health experts in Lucknow shared crucial insights on the prevention of respiratory diseases as Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS) marked World COPD Day and World Antimicrobial Awareness Week on Wednesday.
The awareness programme was jointly organised by the Departments of Respiratory Medicine and Pharmacology. The event was inaugurated in the presence of Institute Director Prof. C.M. Singh and Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. Vikram Singh.
Prof. C.M. Singh emphasised the importance of the rational use of antimicrobial drugs, especially in respiratory illnesses and other infectious conditions. He pointed out that inappropriate usage continues to contribute to rising global antimicrobial resistance.
Dr. Vikram Singh highlighted the need to strengthen hospital-based policies to ensure the proper and judicious use of antimicrobial medicines in treating respiratory diseases and various infections.
Renowned experts delivered a series of lectures during the programme.

Dr. Sachchidanand Tiwari (AIIMS, Raebareli) discussed the rational use of antibiotics and strategies to curb misuse and promote better prescribing practices.

Dr. Ankit Kumar (KGMU) presented an insightful lecture on optimising pneumonia management amid rising antimicrobial resistance.
The event was organised under the leadership of Dr. Ajay Kumar Verma, Professor and Head of the Respiratory Medicine Department, and Dr. Arpita Singh, Professor and Head of the Pharmacology Department. Organising Secretaries Dr. Hemant Kumar (Respiratory Medicine) and Dr. Pooja Shukla (Pharmacology) coordinated the programme.
Faculty members, residents, and students participated enthusiastically, reflecting the institute’s strong commitment to promoting respiratory health and advocating responsible antimicrobial use to combat the growing global threat of antimicrobial resistance.
