Expert Lecture on Yoga Organised at BBD University under “Yoga Month” Initiative

Lucknow: Babu Banarasi Das University, Lucknow, in collaboration with the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, organised an expert lecture as part of its “Yoga Month” celebrations. The event was themed “Yoga for Holistic Health: Ancient Wisdom and Modern Scientific Perspective”, aligning with the ministry’s chosen topic – “One Earth, One Health.” The primary objective was to highlight the scientific aspects of yoga and its relevance in contemporary health practices.

The keynote speaker was Professor (Dr.) Dipeshwar Singh, Head of the Department of Yoga, Naturopathy and Cognitive Studies at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow. In his lecture, Dr. Singh elaborated on the scientific utility of yoga, particularly its role in mental health, stress management, and lifestyle-related disorders. He emphasized that yoga has transcended its traditional roots to become an integral part of global health systems.

The programme commenced with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony, followed by a welcome address from Prof. (Dr.) S. Ahmad Ali, Director, Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), BBD University. Dr. Ali stressed the importance of incorporating yoga as an inclusive practice within higher education frameworks.

In the concluding session, Prof. (Dr.) S.C. Sharma, Pro Vice-Chancellor of BBD University, shared his insights. He stated that yoga is not merely a tool for physical fitness, but a foundation for mental, social, and emotional well-being. He urged the youth to embrace yoga as a daily practice to ensure their holistic development.

The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of Prof. (Dr.) S.M.K. Rizvi, Dean of Student Welfare, Deans and Directors of various faculties, university faculty members, staff, and a large number of students. The programme concluded with the presentation of a memento to the chief guest, followed by a formal vote of thanks, marking the successful culmination of the event.
