Exhibition pays unique ode to Martin Luther King, Gandhi

Chennai: The exhibition “City of Hope: Gandhi, King, and the 1968 Poor People’s Campaign” was launched at the Anna Centenary Library in Chennai, with School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi inaugurating the event. The exhibition, celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day, explores the influence of Mahatma Gandhi on Martin Luther King Jr.’s global vision for human rights and economic justice, as well as the impact of India’s freedom struggle on the American civil rights movement.

The event, presented by the U.S. Consulate General in Chennai in collaboration with the Meridian International Center and ReReeti Foundation, is part of the 2025 Chennai Photo Biennale. The exhibition is open to the public until January 30, 2025 (Martyrs’ Day), from 9 AM to 6 PM every day, except on Republic Day. Poyyamozhi, in his opening speech, emphasized the importance of achieving social, economic, and gender equality and ensuring the right to education for all.
