Lucknow – The Excise Department in Lucknow has seized a major consignment of illegal foreign liquor being smuggled through the city. Acting on a tip-off, officials intercepted a Kia Sonet SUV on Kisan Path during a routine check, leading to a dramatic chase.
When signaled to stop, the driver attempted to flee towards the rural areas of Gosainganj. With the support of Gosainganj Police and the surveillance team, two smugglers were apprehended near Kasimpur village along with the vehicle.
Upon inspection, officials recovered 473 bottles of illegal foreign liquor from the car, reportedly being transported from Haryana to Bihar for smuggling. In addition, three mobile phones and Rs 2,030 in cash were seized from the accused.
Authorities confirmed that the arrested individuals are being interrogated to trace the larger network involved in the interstate liquor smuggling racket. The Excise Department has registered a case, and further investigations are underway.
