Encounter in South Zone’s Krishnanagar: Notorious Criminal Suraj Soni Injured in Police Action

Lucknow: An encounter broke out in the Krishnanagar area of South Zone, Lucknow, between police and a wanted criminal late Tuesday evening. The accused, identified as Suraj Soni, sustained a gunshot injury to his leg during the brief exchange of fire.

According to police officials, Suraj Soni, a resident of Sitapur, has a long criminal history and is named in 17 cases, including multiple charges of theft. He had been absconding for several months and was actively being sought by the local police.

The encounter occurred when police teams, acting on a tip-off, attempted to apprehend Soni in Krishnanagar. Upon being surrounded, the accused opened fire on the officers, prompting retaliatory action. In the crossfire, Soni was shot in the leg and overpowered.

He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. His condition is reported to be stable. No police personnel were injured in the operation.

Senior officials confirmed that further investigations are underway and that the arrest of Soni is expected to provide crucial leads in several ongoing theft and burglary cases across the region. A case under relevant sections has been registered, and additional charges may follow based on interrogation.

This marks another success for the Lucknow Police in their ongoing crackdown on habitual offenders and repeat criminals operating in and around the city.
