Perth– Australian cricket superstar Ellyse Perry made history by becoming the highest run-scorer for Australia in women’s Test cricket. The milestone came during the second day of the one-off Test against India at the WACA Ground in Perth.
Perry Surpasses Long-Standing Australian Record
Perry reached the landmark while batting in Australia’s first innings, further cementing her reputation as one of the most consistent performers in women’s cricket history. The experienced all-rounder crossed the 1,000-run mark in Tests with a single off Sneh Rana’s delivery in the 43rd over, tapping the ball toward mid-wicket.
Before Perry, former Australian captain Karen Rolton held the record with 1,002 runs. Perry not only joined the elite group of Australian women cricketers to surpass 1,000 Test runs but soon went past Rolton’s tally with a firm boundary over mid-on off Deepti Sharma, claiming the top spot in Australia’s women’s Test batting records.
Solid Contribution in Australia’s First Innings
Perry’s innings ended shortly after reaching the record, as Deepti Sharma dismissed her for a valuable 76 runs, which included ten boundaries and one six. Her composed batting, marked by patience and controlled stroke play, helped stabilize Australia’s innings at a crucial stage.
Key Partnership Strengthens Australia’s Position
A highlight of the innings was Perry’s partnership with Annabel Sutherland, who added 128 runs for the fourth wicket. This stand shifted momentum firmly in Australia’s favor after India had been bowled out for 198 runs in their first innings.

By tea on the second day, Australia had reached 217 for four in 58 overs, with Sutherland unbeaten on 93 from 125 deliveries and Beth Mooney on 10 not out. The hosts aimed to build a significant first-innings lead, with Sutherland approaching her century.
Indian Bowlers Make Key Breakthroughs
Despite Australia’s strong batting display, the Indian bowlers made inroads. Sayali Satghar claimed two wickets, while Kranti Gaud and Deepti Sharma picked up one wicket each.
Australia’s Bowlers Set Up Advantage
Australia’s bowlers delivered a disciplined performance to restrict India. Sutherland was particularly impressive with four wickets, while debutant Lucy Hamilton took three. Darcie Brown and Ashleigh Gardner added two and one wickets respectively, dismissing Richa Ghosh among others.
With significant contributions from both bat and ball, Australia established a solid foundation as the match progressed at the WACA Ground.
