Eight-Day Online NEP Orientation and Sensitization Programme on Skill Development Organized by University of Lucknow

Lucknow: The Department of Commerce, University of Lucknow, in collaboration with the Malviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC), successfully organized an eight-day online Orientation and Sensitization Programme on Skill Development under the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The programme aimed to familiarize teachers, research scholars, and students with the core vision of NEP 2020, emphasizing the integration of skill-based learning and employability enhancement in higher education.

The inaugural session commenced with a warm welcome by Professor Ram Milan, Head of the Department of Commerce. He highlighted the growing importance of skill development and its alignment with the objectives of NEP 2020. Professor Sunita Srivastava, Course Coordinator, introduced the course in detail, outlining the objectives, structure, and expected learning outcomes of the eight-day programme.

Professor Manuka Khanna, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, University of Lucknow, addressed the gathering and appreciated the collaborative initiative of the Department of Commerce and MMTTC in promoting academic innovation and capacity building. She emphasized the significance of developing multidisciplinary and flexible learning frameworks to make students future-ready.

Professor Kamal Kumar, Director, MMTTC, also shared his insights on the role of teachers in effectively implementing NEP 2020 and promoting a culture of skill-based education. The inaugural session was attended by eminent academicians, including Professor Archana Singh, Professor Somesh Kumar Shukla, Professor Audhesh Kumar, and Professor Geetika T. Kapoor.

More than 150 participants from universities and institutions across India attended the programme, reflecting its national outreach and relevance. The event was efficiently coordinated by Dr. Ankita Pandey.

The first expert session was delivered by Professor Furqan Qamar, Secretary General of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and Professor at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, on the topic “NEP 2020: Skill Development Framework in Higher Education.” His insightful lecture offered a comprehensive understanding of the policy’s emphasis on holistic, flexible, and multidisciplinary education, encouraging participants to reimagine the role of higher education in nurturing employable and skilled graduates.

The eight-day programme will continue to feature lectures and interactive sessions by distinguished experts, focusing on innovation, entrepreneurship, vocational training, and the evolving landscape of skill-based learning in India’s higher education system.
