Lucknow | As part of the ongoing cleanliness initiatives under Swachh Survekshan 2026, Lucknow Municipal Corporation organized a dustbin distribution programme in Hind Nagar Ward under Zone-8. The initiative aimed at promoting better waste management practices and enhancing public participation in maintaining cleanliness.
The programme was inaugurated by Mayor Sushma Kharkwal, who distributed dustbins among local residents and encouraged them to adopt responsible waste disposal habits.
Mayor Highlights Importance of Cleanliness
Addressing the gathering, the Mayor elaborated on the significance of the Swachh Bharat Mission, stating that cleanliness is not just a campaign but a collective responsibility of every citizen.
She highlighted the consistent efforts of the municipal corporation towards improving sanitation standards, noting that Lucknow has secured the third position at the national level in cleanliness rankings. Expressing confidence, she said that with active citizen participation, the city is poised to achieve the top rank in the upcoming survey.
Call for Waste Segregation
The Mayor urged residents to segregate wet and dry waste at the source and cooperate with municipal sanitation systems. She stressed that public participation is crucial for achieving long-term cleanliness goals.

During the event, she also administered a cleanliness pledge to the attendees, encouraging them to commit to keeping their surroundings clean and hygienic.
Participation of Officials and Citizens
The programme witnessed the presence of local councillor Saurabh Singh Monu, nominated councillor Neha Singh, Zonal Officer Vikas Singh, and Zonal Sanitary Officer Jitendra Gandhi, along with other municipal staff.
Teams including HMS IEC, Champions Team, SBM Team, and the zonal team actively participated in the event. The IEC team conducted awareness activities, educating residents about waste segregation, sanitation practices, and preparations for Swachh Survekshan.
Strengthening Community Participation
A large number of local residents attended the programme and expressed their commitment to supporting the cleanliness drive. The initiative reinforced the importance of community involvement in building a cleaner and healthier Lucknow.
