DRDO Hands Over Indigenous High-Voltage Power Supply to Armed Forces

New Delhi: In a major boost to India’s defence technology capabilities, DRDO formally handed over an indigenously developed high-voltage power supply system from Versabyte Data Systems Pvt Ltd to the armed forces at DRDO Bhawan. The handover was witnessed by senior DRDO officials and defence leadership.

Developed under DRDO’s Technology Development Fund (TDF), the power supply will be used in airborne self-protection jammers, supporting both pulse and continuous-wave operations critical for aircraft survivability. This marks a significant step in transitioning advanced defence technologies from laboratories to operational deployment.

Versabyte, a pioneer in high-efficiency power supplies for military applications, has designed systems for radars, missiles, manpack radios, drones, and aircraft, meeting stringent standards like MIL-STD-704F, MIL-STD-461E, and MIL-STD-810F. Their solutions include high-voltage units for Klystron and Travelling Wave Tube (TWT) applications, optimized for size, weight, and power efficiency.

The collaboration exemplifies a successful public-private partnership, combining DRDO’s technical guidance with Versabyte’s agile engineering and rapid prototyping. The result is faster development cycles, operationally aligned hardware, and enhanced self-reliance in defence electronics, in line with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

With indigenous production, the armed forces gain reliable access to high-tech components, streamlined maintenance, and quick upgrades for critical systems like self-protection jammers on fighters and AEW&C platforms. Versabyte’s units already power systems including UTTAM AESA radars on LCA, Astra missile launchers, and SU-30 aircraft systems.

Experts say this milestone strengthens India’s defence industrial ecosystem, demonstrating the capability of domestic firms to produce high-reliability, ruggedized subsystems and reducing dependence on imports. The DRDO-Versabyte partnership sets a benchmark for future innovation in electronic warfare, hypersonics, and advanced power electronics.
