Washington D.C. – U.S. President Donald Trump has unveiled the Genesis Mission, a landmark national initiative designed to strengthen America’s global technological leadership and accelerate scientific research through artificial intelligence.
According to a White House statement, the Genesis Mission will establish an integrated AI platform that leverages the largest collection of federal scientific datasets in the world, built over decades of government investment. The platform will train scientific foundation models, create AI agents to test new hypotheses, automate research workflows, and fast-track breakthroughs across multiple scientific fields.
The program will unite the nation’s research ecosystem, including national laboratories, universities, commercial companies, industrial facilities, data repositories, and national security infrastructure, under a single coordinated effort.
“The Genesis Mission will dramatically accelerate scientific discovery, strengthen national security, secure energy dominance, enhance workforce productivity, and multiply the return on taxpayer investment in research and development,” the statement said.
A central component of the mission is the creation of the American Science and Security Platform (ASSP), which will feature high-performance computing resources, AI modeling tools, domain-specific foundation models, secure access to government datasets, and AI-powered experimentation capabilities. The platform will utilize Department of Energy (DOE) supercomputers, secure cloud environments, and advanced AI technologies to support large-scale model training, simulation, and scientific analysis.

As per the directive, the DOE must identify at least 20 priority scientific and technological challenges within 60 days, spanning areas such as advanced manufacturing, biotechnology, critical materials, nuclear fission and fusion, quantum information science, and semiconductors. The Assistant to the President for Science and Technology (APST) will then expand this list to guide the mission’s research agenda.
The Genesis Mission will foster interagency collaboration, partnerships with academia and industry, competitive research initiatives, and secure engagement with external AI, data, and computing experts. The DOE Secretary will oversee implementation, with the option to appoint senior officials to manage day-to-day operations.
The White House described the Genesis Mission as a major leap forward in leveraging AI for national objectives, aiming to accelerate technological, scientific, and security advancements that will shape the future of U.S. innovation.
