Ram Sagar Mishra Joint Hospital Creates History with Complex Operation
Lucknow – In a remarkable achievement in the field of healthcare, doctors at Ram Sagar Mishra Joint Hospital, Sadar Mau (BKT), have given a new lease of life to a 35-year-old woman by successfully performing a highly complex surgery.
The patient, Lakshmi, a resident of Babarpur Sandana in Sitapur, was admitted to the hospital on September 15 with severe abdominal pain and nausea. Her family had previously consulted several hospitals but found no relief. When they approached Dr. Ajit Singh, surgeon at Ram Sagar Mishra Hospital, further investigations revealed that the patient had three large hydatid cysts in her liver.
Explaining the condition, Dr. Singh said, “Hydatid cyst is caused by a parasitic infection from the dog tapeworm Echinococcus granulosus. It spreads from animals to humans through contaminated food, water, or poor hygiene. While it can affect various organs, 60–70% of cases are found in the liver and 20–30% in the lungs. Left untreated, the cyst may rupture and cause life-threatening complications, including anaphylactic shock.”
Given the seriousness of the case, Dr. Singh, along with anesthetists Dr. U.S. Lal and Dr. Sumit Kumar Maharaj, decided to carry out an emergency surgery. With the coordinated efforts of the medical team, the operation was successfully completed.
Post-surgery, the patient has recovered fully and is now stable. Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. V.K. Sharma congratulated the entire team, calling the successful surgery “an exemplary effort that has strengthened public faith in the hospital.” He further added that such life-saving interventions reflect the government’s intent to provide quality healthcare to all.
Expressing gratitude to his colleagues, Dr. Ajit Singh said, “This was a very complex case, but with the active support of my team, we were able to achieve success. Without the expertise of the anesthesiology team, this would not have been possible.”
