– Patient suffered from severe aortic stenosis, sudden cardiac arrest and chronic kidney disease (CKD), making the procedure highly complex.
Lucknow: A 61-year-old woman with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and severe aortic stenosis (narrowing of aortic valves of heart) underwent a successful Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Lucknow. Patient was on maintenance dialysis from last 2 years. She came to us at max Hospital, Lucknow and was admitted on 13th January. During dialysis she used to suffer from hypotension (decreased bp) due to aortic stenosis which made dialysis very complicated. After TAVI she is undergoing normal dialysis
Further diagnosis revealed narrowing of her heart valves and due to her worsening condition, doctors decided to perform TAVI, a minimally invasive procedure to replace the aortic valve. However, during the procedure, she suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. The medical team immediately performed CPR, reviving her and ensuring the procedure continued.
Dr. Ambukeshwar Singh, Associate Director & Unit Head of Interventional Cardiology, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Lucknow led the medical team and further stated, “This was an extremely complex and challenging case due to multiple comorbidities. This case was particularly challenging as the patient had multiple complications, including chronic kidney disease requiring dialysis, and severe aortic stenosis. While managing her cardiac condition, we simultaneously administered Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) to support her failing kidneys. Despite the high-risk nature of the case, the procedure was successfully completed, restoring normal heart function.”
The successful outcome highlights advancements in interventional cardiology and the expertise of the team. A multi-disciplinary approach and timely intervention were key in saving her life. After stabilization and recovery, the patient was discharged on 21.01.2025, marking another milestone in advanced care at Max Hospital, Lucknow.
