Divyang Children Showcase Talent, Learn the Art of ‘Alpana’ in Ayodhya Workshop

Lucknow : A special art workshop on ‘Alpana’ painting—an ancient traditional Indian folk art form—was inaugurated in Ayodhya, leaving participants and viewers in awe as differently-abled (Divyang) children displayed remarkable artistic skills. The workshop is being jointly organized by the Uttar Pradesh Institute of Folk Art and Tribal Culture (under the Department of Culture) and Vani Viklang Sewa Sansthan, Shringarhat, Ayodhya.

On the opening day, the young artists enthusiastically learned about Alpana, a traditional decorative art that holds a deep connection with India’s cultural and spiritual roots. Renowned social worker and art trainer Vani Shukla, who is leading the sessions, shared that the ancient art of Alpana Rangoli is being taught with a modern approach, and this marks the first time such a workshop is being held in Ayodhya.

The workshop was inaugurated by chief guest  Neelam Srivastava, a noted social worker, who expressed immense joy at the initiative. “It gives me great pleasure to see such an inclusive and culturally enriching event being organized in the holy city of Ayodhya,” she said while encouraging the children.

Uttar Pradesh’s Minister for Culture and Tourism,  Jaiveer Singh, emphasized that the workshop aims to empower specially-abled children and help them find livelihood opportunities through art. “Through such initiatives, we are reconnecting children with their cultural roots and giving them exposure to India’s rich and diverse folk art heritage, many of which are on the verge of extinction,” he added.

The Minister also highlighted that similar workshops are being conducted across the state as part of a broader effort to give every child a platform to identify and nurture their talents. The enthusiasm and creativity displayed by the children reflect the untapped potential waiting to be harnessed.

Titled ‘Srijan’, this summer workshop not only helps preserve traditional art forms but also provides a platform for emerging and aspiring artists to showcase their talent. The initiative serves as a bridge between cultural preservation and youth empowerment.

Schools and colleges interested in hosting such workshops can contact the Uttar Pradesh Institute of Folk Art and Tribal Culture, Department of Culture. Applications may be sent to Jawahar Bhawan, 9th Floor, Ashok Marg, Lucknow. Participation in the workshop is free of cost.
