Divisional Commissioner Reviews Municipal and Smart City Projects in Lucknow

Lucknow: A high-level review meeting on municipal services and development works under the Smart City initiative was held at the Smart City auditorium under the chairmanship of Vijay Vishwas Pant, Divisional Commissioner of Lucknow.

The meeting was attended by Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Kumar, additional commissioners, the chief engineer, zonal officers of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation, and other officials. The review focused on improving civic amenities, sanitation management, and monitoring ongoing projects under the Smart Cities Mission.

During the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner directed officials to further strengthen the city’s cleanliness system. He emphasized the need for a more effective night sweeping strategy, noting that daytime traffic and population pressure often affect sanitation operations. Officials were instructed to identify a model area where night sweeping has produced positive results and replicate the system across the city in phases.

Pant also directed the municipal authorities to maintain ward-wise and mohalla-wise records of waste collection, including monthly data on the volume of garbage collected from each locality. The data, he said, would help assess sanitation conditions and improve waste management planning.

He further instructed officials to ensure regular maintenance of roads, prompt repair of potholes, and better drainage management to prevent waterlogging during rains. Areas facing drainage issues should be identified and resolved on priority.

The Divisional Commissioner also sought details of unauthorised garbage dumping points in model wards and directed the installation of surveillance cameras at such locations. Strict action, including penalties, will be taken against individuals found dumping waste in open areas in violation of municipal rules.

The meeting also reviewed the progress of various projects under the Smart City programme. Pant directed officials to conduct a techno-financial audit of all completed projects through a competent third-party agency to ensure transparency, quality, and proper utilization.

Among the projects discussed were the multimedia show at Janeshwar Mishra Park, Happiness Park, and UP Darshan Park. Officials were asked to ensure their efficient operation so that residents and tourists can fully benefit from these facilities.

Pant also directed coordination with the Lucknow Development Authority to resolve pending revenue-sharing issues related to these projects and ensure that all Smart City initiatives function effectively for the city’s development and public convenience.
