District-Level Athletics Championship Held at Guru Gobind Singh Sports College, Lucknow

Lucknow: A District-Level Athletics Championship was organized at Guru Gobind Singh Sports College, Lucknow, to mark the birth centenary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay. The event was inaugurated by the Principal of Sports College, Lucknow, in a grand opening ceremony attended by athletes, coaches, and sports officials.

The championship witnessed enthusiastic participation from 110 boys and 65 girls across various athletic disciplines. Present on the occasion were Mr. Rajesh Kumar Gaur, Deputy Sports Officer, Lucknow; Mr. Vimal Ram, Coach, Sports College, Lucknow; Shailendra Singh, Coach, Sports College, Lucknow;  Jyoti Nishad, Coach, KD Singh Babu Stadium, Lucknow; and  Sahil Hussain Naqvi, Coach, Chowk Stadium, along with officials from the Athletics Association.

Highlights of the Championship

In the Under-19 Girls’ category, athletes from KD Singh Babu Stadium dominated several track and field events.

  • Shivangi Pal emerged as the winner in the 100m sprint, followed by Anshika Yadav and Supriya Yadav.

  • In the 200m, Lalita Verma took first place, while Shivangi Pal and Supriya Yadav finished second and third respectively.

  • Shivanki from Chowk Stadium clinched gold in the 400m and 800m races, showcasing remarkable endurance.

  • Mohana won the 1500m event, while Anshika Mishra and Parina Sharma displayed impressive performances in the 100m and 400m hurdles.

  • In the field events, Anshika Singh (long jump), Sakshi Malik (triple jump), Shikha Yadav (discus throw), and Sheikh Naveeza (javelin and shot put) delivered standout performances, securing top honors.

In the Under-19 Boys’ category, fierce competition unfolded among athletes from Sports College, Lucknow, KD Singh Babu Stadium, and other local institutions.

  • Harsh Kumar from KD Singh Babu Stadium won both the 100m and 200m races, while Shiv Kumar Nishad dominated the 400m and 800m events.

  • Atul Yadav from Sports College took gold in the 110m hurdles, and Mayank Bahadur secured first place in the 400m hurdles.

  • In the field events, Anish Kumar Yadav excelled in the long jump and triple jump, while Ansh Patel from KD Singh Babu Stadium claimed first in the discus throw.

  • Himanshu Kumar won the javelin throw, and Arshad Khan from Sports College finished first in the shot put event.

The championship concluded on an inspiring note, celebrating young athletic talent and promoting the spirit of sportsmanship. The event not only honored the legacy of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay but also reaffirmed Lucknow’s growing status as a nurturing ground for emerging sports talent.
