Digital Transformation at Prayagraj: Akharas Embrace Innovation

Prayagraj

Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh – In an effort to make the upcoming Maha Kumbh a grand, clean, and organized event, the Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh is integrating technology and innovation into the spiritual gathering. A significant transformation is underway, with the Maha Kumbh now taking on a digital form, promoting transparency, saving time, and enhancing efficiency. In this digital age, the 13 Akharas of Sanatan Dharma are also stepping into the world of technology, modernizing their operations and management.

Akharas Moving Towards Digitalization

The 13 prominent Akharas that represent Sanatan Dharma are adapting to the digital era by creating their own databases to streamline operations and maintain records. For instance, Shri Panchayati Akhara Maha Nirvani’s Secretary, Mahant Jamuna Puri, shares that the Akhara uses both computers and ledgers to maintain detailed records, especially for tax audits. The digital databases now simplify filing processes, making it easier for the Akharas to share their financial details with chartered accountants.

Similarly, Shri Panch Agni Akhara’s General Secretary, Sameshwaranand Brahmachari, highlights how digital tools have replaced traditional ledger books. The Akharas also run Sanskrit schools, where digital records track everything from student enrollment to income and expenditure. This move towards digitalization has streamlined processes, bringing greater accuracy and transparency to Akhara operations.

Global Campaigns Supported by Digital Databases

The Akharas are not only spreading spirituality and devotion but also driving global initiatives. For example, Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Arun Giri Ji of Aawahan Akhara is spearheading a global tree-planting campaign to promote environmental protection. Thanks to the use of databases, the Akhara can manage these efforts more effectively and transparently, saving time and improving overall organization.

Strengthening Roots of Sanatan Dharma Among Deprived Communities

The digital shift also helps Akharas in their outreach efforts, particularly in connecting with tribal and marginalized communities. According to Mahamandaleshwar Swami Pranavanand Saraswati Ji of Shri Panchayati Akhara Maha Nirvani, collecting data on these communities is crucial for the expansion and exploration of Sanatan Dharma. It helps establish deeper connections with underserved societies, ensuring that they are brought closer to the roots of spirituality and tradition.

Vaishnav Akharas to Follow Suit

While Vaishnav Akharas have yet to fully embrace digitalization, there is a growing consensus among them to follow in the footsteps of their counterparts. Shri Mahant Ram Ji Das of All India Shri Panch Nirmohi Ani Akhara notes that although Vaishnav Akharas do not have trusts like the Sanyasi Akharas, they will eventually need to adopt digital practices to stay relevant in the modern age.

The Yogi government’s efforts to integrate digital solutions with traditional practices are set to transform the Maha Kumbh into not only a spiritual milestone but also a showcase of technological advancement. As Akharas continue to digitize their operations, they are paving the way for a more transparent, efficient, and globally connected future for Sanatan Dharma.
