Deputy CM Seeks Probe Report on Doctor Shortage, Expresses Anger Over Poor Hospital Services

Lucknow: Taking strong cognisance of the shortage of doctors at several health centres, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak has sought a detailed probe report from the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) within a week.

Pathak reviewed the situation at 16 health centres in the state capital, where the lack of doctors and negligence in repairing medical equipment emerged as serious concerns. Expressing displeasure, he directed the CMO to investigate the matter and submit a report within seven days.

Referring to media reports, the Deputy CM said that the government has been consistently upgrading hospitals and equipping them with modern and advanced machinery. “Hospitals have been allocated sufficient budget for the repair of old equipment. Despite this, machines remain defunct and repairs are being ignored. This is a matter of grave concern,” he said.

He further added that the shortage of doctors at urban community health centres is equally alarming and needs immediate correction.

Probe Ordered into Burnt Chapatis Served to Patients

Pathak also expressed displeasure over reports from the Fatehpur Medical College–affiliated district hospital, where patients were allegedly served burnt chapatis and watery dal. Calling it a serious lapse affecting patient health, he directed the Director General of Medical Education to constitute a three-member committee to investigate the matter on-site.

The committee has been asked to submit its report within a week. He also warned that appropriate action would be taken against the college principal and CMS for failing to maintain administrative control. The food-supplying agency will also face strict action.

During a review meeting at the health centre, Pathak reiterated that there is no shortage of budgetary support from the government. “Hospitals across the state are being upgraded and equipped with state-of-the-art machines. Our aim is to provide world-class healthcare facilities to the common people,” he said.

He instructed doctors to ensure proper treatment for every patient visiting the hospital. The Deputy CM also issued strict directions regarding the quality of food served to patients.

During his spot inspection, Pathak reviewed the available facilities, the stock of medicines, and the progress of various government health schemes, seeking detailed reports from officials.
