De Taali by Breakthrough: 55,000 Young Voices Unite to Standup for True Empowerment to Challenge

Lucknow: Reinforcing its commitment to building a culture where women and girls live on equal terms and pursue their aspirations, Breakthrough is organising a state-level event titled, “De Taali: Sapno Se Safalta Tak.” The full day event will bring together youth, parents, community influencers, government officials, content creators, and other stakeholders to collectively challenge regressive cultural practices to spotlight women’s economic empowerment as central to the vision of Viksit Bharat.

“De Taali: Sapno Se Safalta Tak” aims to create a shared understanding of the cultural practices affecting young women and girls while celebrating youth-led initiatives for a more equal world. The event will feature stories of young women redefining aspirations and career choices with the support of families and communities. A key highlight of the event will be the launch of the De Taali Song – a powerful celebration and symbol of young women’s aspirations, economic independence, and leadership. The song gains even greater significance with Sunidhi Chauhan lending her voice pro bono — underscoring the need of collective commitment of influential voices to advance the cause of women’s economic empowerment. The event will also feature Guftagu, an open and interactive conversation between content creators – Aman Pandey, Anushka Jain and Gyanendra Pratap Singh, Founder of The Macho Bird and young people, exploring the role of digital in their lives, and how digital platforms are influencing perspectives to drive mindsets and social change.

How Women’s Economic Empowerment Speaks to the New India Story

Deeply rooted cultural practices and social norms that continue to limit girls’s education, mobility, digital inclusion and agency require early and sustained engagement with adolescents and the ecosystems that influence them.

India stands at a critical moment in its development journey and closing gender gaps in education, digital inclusion and workforce participation is one of the fastest pathways to accelerate economic growth. When women earn and lead, families grow stronger, communities thrive and the economy becomes more inclusive — powering the vision of a stronger New India. Accelerating women’s economic participation is therefore not just a matter of equality but an essential path to building an inclusive and truly Viksit Bharat.

Breakthrough is currently engaging with a total of 55,000 adolescents and youth across 4 districts in Uttar Pradesh – Ghazipur, Gorakhpur, Lucknow and Maharajganj. Through sustained community, media, and digital interventions, Breakthrough promotes gender-equitable attitudes and behaviours through working in schools and communities, by building agency and negotiation skills of adolescents and youth, and fostering inter-generational dialogue.

De Taali: Sapno Se Safalta Tak is a collective call to parents, male family members, esp fathers and brothers, communities, influencers, and leaders to actively foster a safe, equitable, and enabling environment for young women and girls. It demonstrates that young people are not just the agents of change – they are the architects of it. Breakthrough strongly believes that sustained, community-driven engagement and digital interventions centering youth leadership—can shift gender norms and unlock the full potential of young women across Uttar Pradesh. With over 100,000 followers on YouTube, the De Taali digital initiative engages young people to challenge regressive social norms, using popular culture and trends aimed at promoting women’s economic empowerment.

Quote: “Breakthrough believes a more equal world for adolescents and young adults is possible only by placing them at the centre of our programmes. When young girls and women are free to shape their own futures, families grow stronger, economies thrive and societies benefit as a whole.”
