Lucknow |– India’s most widely read newspaper, Dainik Jagran, has launched a nationwide initiative titled ‘Jagran Yuva Sansad: Desh ke Kal Mein, Aaj Banen Bhagidaar’, aimed at preparing the country’s next generation of leaders, policy thinkers, and responsible citizens. The campaign, which began this month, seeks to cultivate democratic values, structured debate skills, and a deep understanding of parliamentary processes among young Indians.
Described as a transformative civic platform, Jagran Yuva Sansad is designed to strengthen the intellectual and leadership capacities of youth aged up to 25 years. With 65% of India’s population below the age of 35, the organisers believe that the country’s future hinges on the active, informed participation of young citizens. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between youthful enthusiasm and the complex realities of governance, policy formulation, and democratic responsibilities.
According to the organisers, Jagran Yuva Sansad rests on a core belief: India’s toughest challenges cannot be solved with old mindsets but require new perspectives and informed voices. The programme intends to nurture these voices through structured debate, informed discussion, and exposure to constitutional values such as justice, equality, liberty, and fraternity.
Three Key Objectives
The campaign outlines three major goals for the participating youth:
-
To strengthen Indian democracy by educating young people about democratic institutions and their functioning.
-
To create dynamic learning spaces where students think, debate, question, and understand the duties of active and responsible citizenship.
-
To provide opportunities for civic participation by enabling youth to understand and engage with legislative processes.
Participants will be selected from across the country after debate and discussion sessions held at colleges and universities in multiple cities. These sessions—conducted separately for undergraduate and postgraduate levels—will be announced in the local editions of Dainik Jagran. Shortlisted candidates will be evaluated on subject understanding, communication skills, and democratic conduct.

Three-Day National Session in Delhi
A total of 100 selected Jagran Yuva Sansads will travel to New Delhi for a three-day national event modelled on the functioning of the Indian Parliament. After taking an oath as “members,” youth will take on roles of treasury and opposition benches, debate selected bills, propose amendments, and deliberate on issues of national importance.
Bills passed by the youth parliament—including private member bills presented by participants—will be published prominently in Dainik Jagran, offering young voices a platform of national relevance.
Prior to the Delhi session, all selected participants will undergo 15 days of online training conducted by subject experts. The training will cover parliamentary rules, debate techniques, legislative frameworks, and contemporary national issues to ensure meaningful participation.
A Platform Beyond Social Media Noise
The organisers emphasise that Jagran Yuva Sansad offers a constructive alternative to the often uninformed and polarised discussions dominating social media. Instead, the programme aims to ground young participants in facts, broaden their knowledge base, and equip them with parliamentary-style debating skills while fostering respect for constitutional and democratic values.
Open Participation for Youth Nationwide
Any Indian youth up to 25 years of age can register for the initiative through the official website. (Registration Link: jagranyuvasansad.com) Colleges have been requested to encourage their talented students to participate and to support them in taking part in debate sessions.
With an overarching mission to nurture informed, responsible, and visionary young citizens, Jagran Yuva Sansad aspires to create a generation that not only understands Indian democracy but actively strengthens it.
