Lucknow | As part of the National Newborn Week and the department’s Foundation Day celebrations, the Department of Neonatology at SGPGI organised a vibrant Cyclo-Walkathon on Sunday morning. Despite the biting cold, the event—flagged off at 7 a.m.—saw an energetic turnout of participants from across the institute.
The walkathon was inaugurated after a welcome address by Dr. Kirti Naranje, Head of the Department of Neonatology. Participants held placards promoting newborn health, early care practices, and the importance of community awareness.
Senior Faculty Lead the Event
The event saw active participation from several senior faculty members, including Medical Superintendent Dr. R. Harshvardhan, Prof. Dr. Rajneesh from the Department of Gastro Surgery, and Dr. Radha K., Principal of the College of Nursing.
Following the walkathon, an inaugural ceremony was held in which guest speakers emphasised the need to improve newborn health, adopt best early care practices, and raise awareness within the community.
Honouring a Brave Survivor
A highlight of the programme was the special felicitation of Master Haider, a premature survivor and child actor from the film Huk. Haider and his parents shared their inspirational journey and expressed heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Anita Singh, under whose supervision his follow-up care continues.
Participants also visited a beautiful poster exhibition created by students and staff, after which Prof. Shaleen Kumar, Dean and Acting Director, presented awards to the winners.

Engaging Skit on Newborn Health
Students from the College of Nursing presented a captivating role-play under the guidance of Archana and Zeba. The skit showcased key aspects of newborn health—antenatal care, breastfeeding, kangaroo mother care, immunisation, and temperature regulation.
Nursing In-charge Sister Soma and ANS Renu Simon felicitated the team for their performance.
Fun and Games Add to the Festive Spirit
The morning also featured engaging fun games organised by resident doctors and nursing officers, adding enthusiasm and joy to the celebrations.
The programme was smoothly coordinated by Dr. Akanksha, Dr. Sushil Kumar, Dr. Fouzia, and Dr. Abhishek Paul, whose combined efforts ensured the success of the event.
The lively and well-attended celebration reaffirmed SGPGI’s commitment to promoting newborn health and strengthening community awareness through education, outreach, and collaborative initiatives.
