Cultural Festivities Mark Hindu New Year at Janbhawan, Lucknow

Lucknow: Under the inspiration and guidance of the Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Smt. Anandiben Patel, and in the gracious presence of Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Satish Mahana, a vibrant cultural program was organized at Janbhawan today on the eve of the Hindu New Year.

The event commenced with the screening of an engaging documentary prepared by the Information and IT teams of Janbhawan, highlighting the significance of Hindu New Year, Indian traditions, and cultural heritage.

Following this, children of Janbhawan employees showcased captivating dance performances representing various Indian states, dressed in traditional attire. These performances beautifully portrayed the diversity and unity of India’s cultural tapestry.

The next segment featured heartfelt folk song renditions on Hindu New Year, presented by the wives of Janbhawan officers and staff. Their performances added a festive and joyful spirit to the celebration.

Addressing the audience, Governor  Anandiben Patel extended her warm New Year greetings and appreciated the cultural presentations by the children and participants. She emphasized celebrating festivals with enthusiasm, decorating homes, preparing traditional delicacies, and spending quality time with family as ways to bring joy and positivity into life. She urged individuals to resolve to serve society, children, and parents, noting that satisfaction derived from serving others is unparalleled.

The Governor also instructed Janbhawan officials to prepare a year-round calendar of social and cultural events, ensuring active participation of all age groups. She highlighted the scientific basis of Indian festivals, explaining that festivals are determined by astronomical calculations, and stressed the importance of passing these traditions to the younger generation. She called for academic discussions in universities and colleges about the scientific foundations of Hindu New Year, including Vikram Samvat and Panchang calculations, which guide social and matrimonial timings.

Governor Patel further encouraged everyone to adopt a positive lifestyle, abstain from bad company, and embrace moral values as part of New Year resolutions.

In his address, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly,  Satish Mahana, extended his New Year greetings and noted that according to the Hindu calendar, this marks the beginning of the year 2083. He praised India’s culture, traditions, and values, highlighting ideals of cooperation, service, universal brotherhood, and the triumph of dharma over adharma. He lauded Governor Patel’s leadership and expressed gratitude for her continuous support and guidance, which has strengthened the Janbhawan community.

Mahana urged citizens to celebrate their birthdays according to both English and Hindu calendars, prepare traditional dishes, visit temples, and spend time with family to reinforce cultural values. He emphasized that Hindu festivals are not merely celebratory but also have scientific underpinnings, giving examples like Holi symbolizing colors and Diwali representing light and positivity.

The event was attended by Special Officers to the Governor, including Dr. Sudhir Mahadev Bobde (Additional Chief Secretary-level), Special Secretary Shri Prakash Gupta, Special Officer Education Dr. Pankaj L. Johny, along with Janbhawan officers, employees, and their families.

The program concluded with a shared message of cultural pride, unity, and festive joy, inspiring all attendees to embrace the New Year with devotion, positivity, and family togetherness.
