CSIR-CDRI Organizes Curtain Raiser for India International Science Festival (IISF) 2025, Celebrating the Spirit of Innovation

Lucknow: To mark the beginning of India’s biggest celebration of science and innovation, the CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI), Lucknow, organized the Curtain Raiser Program for the India International Science Festival (IISF) 2025 on 13th and 14th November 2025. The event served as a prelude to the grand festival scheduled to be held from 6th to 9th December 2025 at Panjab University, Chandigarh.

The India International Science Festival is an annual event organized by the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, in collaboration with various Science Ministries, Departments, and Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA). This year’s theme, “Vigyan Se Samruddhi: For Atmanirbhar Bharat,” reflects the nation’s vision of achieving prosperity through scientific advancement and innovation. The festival aims to unite scientists, innovators, educators, students, and policymakers on a common platform to foster collaboration, creativity, and knowledge sharing.

At the CSIR-CDRI Curtain Raiser, the spotlight was on inspiring young minds. More than 400 students and 25 teachers from three government schools of Lakhimpur Kheri district, Uttar Pradesh, participated in the event. They took part in interactive science demonstrations, quizzes, and discussions with scientists, experiencing firsthand how science fuels progress and problem-solving.

Dr. Sanjeev Yadav, Principal Scientist and Coordinator of the JIGYASA and Outreach Program, briefed students and teachers on the various opportunities IISF-2025 offers. He emphasized the importance of scientific curiosity and encouraged students to consider careers in science, technology, and research. Dr. Hijas K.M. and Mr. Nitin Tiwari led engaging hands-on activities that promoted interactive learning.

Additionally, short documentary films by Ravindra Londhe and his team were screened, showcasing CSIR-CDRI’s contributions to drug discovery and the broader role of CSIR laboratories in addressing national challenges through science and innovation.

In a special video message, the Director of CSIR-CDRI highlighted the transformative power of science-led innovation in nation-building and motivated students to become future torchbearers of India’s scientific progress.

The event concluded on a high note, with participants taking a collective pledge to contribute to the vision of “Viksit Bharat – Atmanirbhar Bharat,” reaffirming that scientific inquiry, innovation, and education remain the driving forces behind a self-reliant and progressive India.
