Contractor Accused of Rs 7 Crore Embezzlement Arrested in Lucknow

Lucknow | The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has arrested contractor Azad Singh, accused in a Rs 7 crore embezzlement case, from the Ashiana area of Lucknow.

According to officials, the case dates back to 2012–13, when several development projects were sanctioned at five sites under Bhadora block in Ghazipur district. However, investigations revealed that the projects were not executed as per government standards. Officers, employees of the implementing agency, and the contractors allegedly colluded, causing a loss of approximately Rs 7 crore in government funds.

Following the irregularities, an FIR was registered at Gahmar police station in Ghazipur against the implementing agency and contractors involved. After prolonged investigation, the EOW tracked down Azad Singh, who had been absconding, and took him into custody.

Officials stated that further interrogation is underway and additional arrests in the case cannot be ruled out.
