Lucknow: On the first day of Sharadiya Navratri, the newly implemented “Next-Gen GST Reform” has infused fresh energy into the markets. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Hazratganj and held a press briefing near Universal Booksellers, highlighting the benefits of reduced GST rates for consumers, traders, and entrepreneurs.
The Chief Minister said that the reform has not only provided relief to consumers but also strengthened the market and opened new employment opportunities. “Being the largest consumer state in the country, Uttar Pradesh stands to gain the most from this reform,” he added.
He elaborated that GST on educational items such as notebooks, pencils, and other school supplies has been reduced to zero, while essential household goods are now taxed at 0–5%. Additionally, 33 life-saving medicines are completely exempt from GST. Increased consumption is expected to boost production, benefiting both traders and entrepreneurs, while creating employment for youth, especially during the festive season.

CM Yogi also shared that after GST implementation, national collections rose from Rs 7 lakh crore to Rs 22 lakh crore, while Uttar Pradesh’s collection increased from Rs 49,000 crore to over Rs 1.15 lakh crore.
Before the press briefing, the Chief Minister interacted with traders and consumers in Hazratganj Market, distributing pamphlets and banners related to the reform. Traders and shoppers expressed their gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Finance Minister for the policy changes. CM Yogi emphasized that the reform is a crucial step to relieve inflationary pressures and strengthen India’s economy.
