CM Yogi Reviews PWD Projects in High-Level Meeting, Emphasizes Inclusive and Strategic Infrastructure Development

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath chaired a high-level meeting at his official residence on Monday to review the implementation and strategic roadmap of key schemes under the Public Works Department (PWD). The meeting was attended virtually by district magistrates from all 75 districts, MLAs from various constituencies, senior officials of the department, and other concerned representatives.

CM Yogi directed that all 75 districts must submit proposals under the 18 major PWD schemes by June 30, ensuring coordination between district magistrates and local public representatives. Emphasizing need-based development, he said, “Development must be driven by local needs, not political boundaries.”

Focus on Inclusive Development and Public Participation

To uphold the principle of inclusive development, the CM instructed that each of the 403 assembly constituencies should benefit from at least 2–3 development schemes. He added that ground-breaking ceremonies or inaugurations should be conducted by local representatives to encourage public participation and ownership.

Strengthening Religious Tourism Infrastructure

Highlighting the economic potential of religious tourism, CM Yogi ordered the selection of 50 prominent religious sites annually based on their historical, cultural, and pilgrimage significance. He stressed prioritizing the construction and strengthening of roads connecting these sites, which would not only enhance cultural experiences but also boost local economies.

Connecting North and South Uttar Pradesh

CM Yogi underscored the need to integrate road connectivity across the state. While east-west connectivity has improved through expressways like Purvanchal, Agra, Yamuna, Bundelkhand, and the under-construction Ganga Expressway, he emphasized the urgent need to develop infrastructure linking northern and southern districts, thereby enhancing internal movement and harmony.

Zero Tolerance for Poor Road Conditions

Directing a state-wide campaign for pothole-free roads, the CM stressed the importance of quality construction, timely maintenance, and road safety. He identified overspeeding and broken roads as key causes of accidents and asked officials to mark all black spots and install table-top speed breakers where needed.

Flood Preparedness and Monsoon Strategy

Acknowledging the vulnerability of roads and bridges in flood-prone areas, the CM called for pre-monsoon preparedness, asking districts to submit advance proposals for repair and reconstruction so that work can begin immediately after rains subside.

Accountability, Transparency, and Monitoring

The CM instructed every district to appoint a nodal officer to monitor weekly progress of development works. He also mandated monthly and bi-monthly review meetings with compulsory participation of public representatives. CM Yogi reiterated that transparency, honesty, and public involvement are essential for sustainable development and directed strict action against blacklisted or suspicious contractors after due investigation.

Key PWD Schemes Include:

  • Widening and strengthening of roads to block and tehsil HQs

  • Upgradation of district roads and state highways

  • Infrastructure for industrial and logistics parks

  • Construction of bypasses, ring roads, and flyovers

  • Inter-state/international border roads with gate construction

  • Bridges under Central Road & Infrastructure Fund (CRIF)

  • Rural connectivity under CM Gram Sadak and Unconnected Settlements Scheme

  • North-South Corridor development

The meeting reinforced the government’s focus on timely, inclusive, and transparent development through infrastructure that strengthens connectivity, boosts the economy, and addresses local needs.
