CM Yogi praises Sikh community

Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently praised the Sikh community for their enduring traditions, remarkable sacrifices, and unwavering fortitude throughout history. Speaking at the Veer Bal Diwas (Sahibzada Diwas) celebration, held at his residence, Adityanath highlighted the remarkable contributions of the Sikh Gurus and the community’s sacrifices in the face of adversity.

He pointed out that while the Sikh community’s rich legacy is celebrated, the distressing condition of Sikh families in places like Kabul, Pakistan, and Bangladesh serves as a painful reminder of their enduring struggles. Adityanath emphasized the importance of following the principles of Sikh Gurus to avoid such tragedies and uphold peace and unity. He stressed that Sikhs, along with Hindus, are complementary, urging the need to avoid those who seek to sow division.

The occasion included a significant gathering, the beginning of 11,000 Sahaj Paaths, and the release of a book on Guru Teg Bahadur’s teachings. The Chief Minister underlined that the Sikh community’s resilience, hard work, and devotion are exemplary and have contributed greatly to India’s defense and progress. He also warned against the forces working to exploit youth through drug misuse and other harmful influences.

Recalling the sacrifices made during key historical events, such as the Battle of Chamkaur and the martyrdom of the Sahibzaades, Adityanath reflected on the Sikh Gurus’ dedication to both religion and nation. He lauded their sacrifices, which have shaped India’s strength and values.

Moreover, he spoke about the role of Sikhism in fostering national unity, highlighting Guru Nanak Dev’s opposition to oppression, Guru Arjun Dev’s sacrifice to save India from tyranny, and Guru Teg Bahadur’s efforts to preserve Kashmir. The CM also pointed out the contributions of Sikh Gurus in promoting equality, community service (like the tradition of langar), and respect for all people.

Adityanath noted that this year marks the 350th anniversary of Guru Teg Bahadur’s martyrdom, and he called for concerted efforts to preserve the historical significance of Gurudwaras in Lucknow. He emphasized the importance of collaborating with local authorities to enhance the aesthetics of these religious sites.

In his speech, the Chief Minister echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s words, emphasizing that Rashtradharma—responsibility to the nation—is the highest form of religion for every Indian, as demonstrated by figures like Maharaja Ranjit Singh. He urged the public to continue upholding the values of sacrifice, unity, and devotion that the Sikh Gurus instilled, ensuring the country’s unity remains unshaken.
