CM Yogi Launches 15 ‘Seva Shakti Kendras’ to Boost Women Empowerment in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow — In a powerful step towards women’s self-reliance and empowerment, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday inaugurated 15 ‘Seva Shakti Kendras’ (Sewing Training Centres) under Mission Shakti 5.0, marking the 85th birth anniversary of former MLA Late D.P. Bora. The event also featured the virtual unveiling of Bora’s statue and the felicitation of distinguished women achievers who have contributed significantly across various social and professional fields.

Speaking on the occasion, CM Yogi said that the day holds special significance as it coincides with Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Meera Bai, and the birth anniversary of Late D.P. Bora. “This day embodies the ideals of devotion, equality, and social harmony. I pay my heartfelt tribute to Maharishi Valmiki, Meera Bai, and Late D.P. Bora for their contributions to spirituality and society,” he said.

The Seva Shakti Kendras, established with the support of the D.P. Bora Memorial Committee, aim to train women in tailoring and help them achieve economic independence. CM Yogi described these centres as symbols of ‘Nari Swavalamban’ (women’s self-reliance), emphasizing that such initiatives are helping women become financially empowered and self-sufficient.

At the event, several women who have made remarkable contributions in fields like education, literature, music, health, and social service were honoured. Among them were Padma Shri Vidya Bindu Singh (Hindi literature), classical musician Sunita Jhingaran, Sheela Mishra, Shalu Singh, and Dr. Chandrawati. CM Yogi praised the awardees, saying, “These women are the torchbearers of change and inspiration in society. Their dedication and excellence bring pride to Uttar Pradesh.”

Reflecting on the legacy of Late D.P. Bora, the Chief Minister described him as a voice of the underprivileged, Dalits, and oppressed sections of society. From his early days as Lucknow University Students’ Union President to serving as a legislator, Bora was known for his integrity, social activism, and commitment to public welfare. “At a time when Lucknow faced gang wars and unrest, Bora Ji worked tirelessly to protect the interests of the poor and traders and gave society a new direction,” CM Yogi said, adding that the statue unveiling and the new Shakti centres are a true tribute to his legacy.

The event also featured a poetic recital by renowned poet Sarvesh Asthana, whose verses highlighted women’s dignity, equality, and resistance against social evils like dowry. CM Yogi lauded his work, stating, “A poet’s pen has the power to awaken society and inspire positive change. Through his poems, Asthana Ji has beautifully conveyed the spirit of Lord Ram’s ideals and social values.”

The Chief Minister underlined the relevance of Maharishi Valmiki’s Ramayana, calling it more than just a religious text. “Ramayana represents social harmony, moral conduct, and environmental balance. It’s a timeless guide to righteous living and sustainable coexistence,” he said. Referring to the construction of the grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya, he added, “This is not merely temple-building — it’s the restoration of Ram Rajya, where truth, justice, and compassion prevail.”

He also spoke about efforts to revive the flora and environment described in the Ramayana period, underscoring the state’s commitment to preserving both cultural and ecological heritage. Remembering Meera Bai’s devotion, he said, “Her faith in Lord Krishna and her association with Guru Ravidas Ji symbolize unity, devotion, and social harmony.”

Concluding his address, CM Yogi described Mission Shakti as a transformative initiative for women’s empowerment. “This mission is dedicated to strengthening women through education, health, and economic self-reliance. Along with ensuring safety and dignity, we are creating opportunities for women to lead. More than 100 Seva Shakti Kendras operated through the D.P. Bora Memorial Committee are playing a key role in realizing this vision,” he said.

With the launch of the new centres, Uttar Pradesh continues to set an example in empowering women through skill development, social equality, and respect — reinforcing the spirit of Mission Shakti: Strength, Safety, and Self-Reliance.
