CM Yogi issues stern directives, all UP schools up to Class 12 closed till January 1

Gorakhpur: Taking cognisance of the biting cold and the prevailing severe cold wave conditions across Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered the closure of all schools up to Class 12, across all boards (ICSE, CBSE, and UP Board), till January 1. CM Yogi clarified that the safety of children is paramount during the cold wave, and any negligence in this regard will not be tolerated.

Officers to take the field, ensure arrangements
The Chief Minister has directed top officials of the government and administration to remain mobile in the field to personally assess the ground reality. The CM stated that in view of the intense cold, adequate arrangements for blankets and bonfires (alav) must be ensured at public places in all districts.

‘No person should sleep in the open’
The Chief Minister has issued special instructions to officials regarding the operation of night shelters (rain baseras). He stated that: * No person in the state should be forced to sleep in the open in this freezing cold.
* All necessary facilities, including bedding, blankets, and cleanliness, must be ensured at all night shelters.
* Officials must ensure that the needy receive relief material and shelter in a timely manner.

A severe cold wave has tightened its grip across Uttar Pradesh, sending temperatures plunging and disrupting daily life in several districts. Dense fog during early morning hours has reduced visibility, affecting road, rail and air traffic, while icy winds have intensified the chill factor. People in both urban and rural areas are staying indoors, relying on bonfires and warm clothing to cope with the biting cold. Homeless shelters have reported an increase in occupants as night temperatures dip sharply. The Meteorological Department has advised residents to take precautions, especially the elderly, children and those with health conditions, as cold conditions are likely to persist.
