CM Yogi Assures Action on Demands Related to Journalists’ Welfare

Lucknow : A delegation of journalists, led by Bharat Singh, Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Accredited Correspondents Committee, met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at his official residence on 5 Kalidas Marg  to present a memorandum outlining key demands related to media welfare and journalist support.

During the meeting, several pressing issues were discussed, including free medical treatment for journalists, provision of residential plots at subsidized rates, implementation of a pension scheme for senior journalists, and an increase in advertising rates for newspapers and magazines listed by the Information and Public Relations Department.

The delegation highlighted the need to raise the current medical coverage for journalists at SGPGI from ₹25 lakh to ₹50 lakh, and urged the government to allocate housing and flats to journalists at concessional rates. Bharat Singh submitted a detailed list of demands to the Chief Minister on behalf of the media fraternity.

CM Yogi Adityanath assured the delegation that the government is committed to the welfare of journalists and would consider the proposed measures seriously.

Key demands included:

  • Launch of a pension scheme for veteran journalists.

  • Allocation of State Property Department’s vacant accommodations to senior and eligible journalists.

  • Formation of an Advertising Accreditation Committee, similar to the existing Press Accreditation Committee, to ensure fair practices in media advertisements.

  • Revision of advertising tariffs based on circulation, regularity, and popularity of publications.

  • Renovation and proper furnishing of the photojournalists’ office space at Darul Shafa A-Block 66 to enable its effective use.

During the meeting, senior journalist Brijnandan Raju also presented the Chief Minister with two books authored by him — “Janata Sarvopari” and “Swarnim Bharat Ki Ore”.

Other members in the delegation included Sarvesh Singh, Padmakar Pandey, Arunav Sinha, Anup Chaturvedi, Ashok Mishra, Suresh Singh, Dr. Satyendra Tripathi, Ashish Maurya, and Anup Mishra.

The meeting marked a positive step toward improving the working conditions and social security of journalists in Uttar Pradesh.
