CM Yogi Adityanath Creates History as Longest-Serving Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: In a historic milestone, Yogi Adityanath has become the longest-serving Chief Minister in the history of Uttar Pradesh, surpassing the record set by the state’s first CM, Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant. As of now, Yogi has completed 8 years and 132 days in office, edging past Pant’s tenure of 8 years and 127 days (including pre-independence service).

Two Consecutive Full Terms

Yogi Adityanath took oath as the 22nd Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh on March 19, 2017. Under his leadership, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a resounding victory in the 2022 state assembly elections, making him the first CM in the state’s history to return to power after completing a full term.

A Journey from Monk to Political Powerhouse

Before entering active politics, Yogi Adityanath served as the head priest of the Gorakhnath Math in Gorakhpur. He stepped into the political arena in 1998 at the age of 26, winning the Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seat and becoming one of the youngest Members of Parliament in India at the time.

Five-Time MP from Gorakhpur

Yogi served as an MP from Gorakhpur for five consecutive terms, establishing himself as a prominent and influential leader within the BJP. During the 2017 UP Assembly elections, he emerged as one of the party’s most visible and effective campaigners, playing a crucial role in securing a massive mandate for the BJP. His contributions were rewarded when he was chosen to lead the state as Chief Minister.

A Landmark in UP Politics

Yogi Adityanath’s record-breaking tenure is being seen as a significant political landmark in Uttar Pradesh’s history. Known for his strong administrative decisions and tough stance on law and order, his leadership has left a deep imprint on the state’s political landscape.

As he continues to lead the most populous state of India, this milestone adds another chapter to Yogi Adityanath’s dynamic political career—one that began in spiritual service and has now cemented itself in governance and electoral success.
