China Begins Mass Production of World’s First Ultra-Sensitive Quantum Radar Detector

Beijing | China has announced the mass production of the world’s first ultra-sensitive quantum radar detector, named Photon Catcher, capable of detecting individual photons—the smallest units of light. This breakthrough enables the detection of stealth aircraft that evade conventional radar systems.

Developed at the Quantum Information Engineering Technology Research Center in Anhui Province, Photon Catcher is expected to play a pivotal role in modern quantum radar and communication systems. The technology could allow China to monitor advanced fighter jets such as the American F-22 and India’s Rafale with unprecedented accuracy.

According to Science and Technology Daily, the single-photon detector can identify one photon among billions, a feat previously considered nearly impossible. Quantum radar works by analysing changes in the quantum properties of photons when they interact with stealth aircraft, making deception impossible to replicate.

The device promises low-energy emissions, high reliability, and deployment across multiple platforms, strengthening China’s position in quantum information technologies and modern air defense capabilities.
