Chief Election Commissioner Holds Meeting with BJP Leadership on Electoral Reforms

New Delhi — Chief Election Commissioner  Rajiv Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi, held a formal interaction  at Nirvachan Sadan with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda and senior BJP leaders. The meeting is part of the ongoing consultative exercise initiated by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to engage with presidents of national and state political parties.

Background and Objectives

The Election Commission of India has launched this consultative initiative to promote greater and more regular interaction with all stakeholders involved in the electoral process. These structured engagements are aimed at fostering constructive dialogue, allowing political parties to share their concerns, suggestions, and feedback directly with the Commission.

This proactive step aligns with the ECI’s larger vision to strengthen the electoral process within the existing legal framework and ensure transparency, fairness, and inclusivity. The initiative is designed to deepen democratic practices by building mutual understanding and trust among electoral stakeholders.

Extensive Outreach

Prior to today’s meeting, the ECI has conducted a total of 4,719 multi-party consultations, which include:

  • 40 meetings with Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs)

  • 800 meetings with District Election Officers (DEOs)

  • 3,879 meetings with Electoral Registration Officers (EROs)

These meetings have witnessed the participation of over 28,000 representatives from various political parties, reflecting the Commission’s commitment to inclusive dialogue.

Today’s interaction with BJP leadership is part of this continuous engagement and is expected to contribute significantly to electoral reforms and process improvement as India prepares for upcoming polls.
