Chain Snatcher Arrested in Lucknow, Stolen Chain Recovered

Lucknow: The Lucknow Police arrested a suspected chain snatcher and recovered a stolen chain during a targeted operation conducted by the team of Saerpur Police Station in Lucknow.

According to police officials, the case was registered on March 11, 2026, after a complaint was lodged by Sarita Devi, a resident of New Shahpur Colony, Raitha Road near Lodhi Market in Lucknow. Based on her complaint, Case No. 30/2026 was registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and police launched a search for the accused.

During routine checking of suspicious persons and vehicles near Kamalabad–Badhauli Tarahiya turn, the police received a tip-off from an informer that the person who had snatched a woman’s chain near the vegetable market on the Sitapur–Lucknow highway on the evening of March 10 was present near the Farrukhabad road turn.

Acting swiftly on the information, the police team reached the spot and apprehended the suspect. The accused was identified as Virendra Kumar (26), son of Lallan and a resident of Sarkpur Saraiya under Bakshi Ka Talab area.

During the search, police recovered one yellow-metal chain believed to be the stolen property from his possession. During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed that he had threatened a woman and snatched her chain to meet his personal financial needs.

The accused has been taken into custody under Sections 309(4) and 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and further legal action is being carried out.

The arrest was made by a police team comprising Sub-Inspector Ramdev, Sub-Inspector Anurag Goswami, Constable Dilip Dwivedi, and Constable Raju Rana of Saerpur police station. Police officials said efforts are underway to verify the accused’s criminal history in other police stations and districts.
