Chabutra Theatre Pathshala Launched in Lucknow; Mother Seva Sansthan Plans Expansion for Youth Engagement

Lucknow: In a bid to promote performing arts and cultural awareness among children and youth, Mother Seva Sansthan has launched its ‘Chabutra Theatre Pathshala’ with regular workshops at Valmiki Park in Takrohi, Indira Nagar.

The initiative was inaugurated on Sunday evening, where young participants were introduced to various art forms including acting, dance, and singing through interactive sessions led by experts.

Workshops Begin with Enthusiastic Participation

Film actor and theatre practitioner Mahesh Chandra Deva conducted acting workshops, introducing children to basic techniques such as mirror exercises for facial expressions, voice modulation, and animal exercises to enhance creativity and body language.

Kathak artist Rajni Verma guided children aged 5 to 15 on folk dance forms, while music instructor Ashish Sharma led singing sessions, helping participants explore their vocal abilities.

Art as a Medium of Cultural Connection

Speaking on the occasion, social worker Rajesh Pujari, President of Maharshi Valmiki Nirdhan Kanya Vivah Samiti, emphasized the importance of arts in society. “Dance, drama, and music connect individuals to their cultural roots and are essential in today’s fast-paced, technology-driven world,” he said.

Several dignitaries, including former councillor Kanshi Ram and advocate Parshuram Kannaujia, were also present at the event.

Expansion Plans and Summer Activities

Mahesh Chandra Deva, who is also the founder of the Chabutra Theatre Pathshala, said that regular workshops will continue during the summer vacations at multiple locations including Valmiki Park (Takrohi), Indira Nagar, and Expert Kids Public School in Jankipuram, Lucknow.

He further informed that the organisation is preparing to open a new centre at Kabir Math in Sarsaundi village, Barabanki, later this month.

Focus on Confidence and Cultural Learning

Sharing the vision of the initiative, Kiran Lata said the primary objective is to nurture creativity among children and youth through theatre, music, and dance. “The platform will help participants understand their cultural heritage, build confidence, and overcome stage fear,” she noted.

The institution is also set to organise a three-day theatre festival in June at the International Buddhist Institute.

The initiative marks a significant step toward creating accessible artistic platforms for young talent, blending cultural education with creative expression in the city.
