CEC Gyanesh Kumar Holds Meeting with AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal on Electoral Reforms

Dialogue Part of ECI’s Ongoing Engagement with Political Party Leaders

New Delhi  — Chief Election Commissioner Shri Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi, met with a delegation from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led by its National Convenor Shri Arvind Kejriwal at the Election Commission of India (ECI) headquarters today. The meeting was part of the Commission’s continued engagement with national and state political parties to foster dialogue on electoral reforms.

Constructive Consultations to Strengthen Democracy

This interaction is part of a series of meetings the ECI is holding with party presidents to address long-standing demands for direct and constructive communication between the Commission and political stakeholders. The initiative aligns with ECI’s broader vision to strengthen the electoral process within the existing legal framework through inclusive and consultative dialogue.

The discussions provided a platform for AAP leaders to share their suggestions, concerns, and feedback directly with the top election authorities, focusing on improving transparency, efficiency, and fairness in the electoral process.

Earlier Interactions with Key Political Parties

Prior to this, the ECI had met with delegations from several major political parties, including:

  • Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) led by President Ms. Mayawati on May 6, 2025

  • Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by President Jagat Prakash Nadda on May 8, 2025

  • Communist Party of India (Marxist) represented by General Secretary  M.A. Baby on May 10, 2025

  • National People’s Party (NPP) led by President  Conrad Sangma on May 13, 2025

These meetings are being viewed as a landmark initiative to ensure continuous collaboration between the Election Commission and the political spectrum in shaping India’s electoral democracy.

Thousands of Party Representatives Engaged Nationwide

To date, the Commission has facilitated 4,719 multi-party meetings at various administrative levels across the country, reflecting its commitment to broad-based stakeholder engagement. These include:

  • 40 meetings conducted by Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs)

  • 800 meetings by District Election Officers (DEOs)

  • 3,879 meetings by Electoral Registration Officers (EROs)

Collectively, these sessions have involved more than 28,000 representatives from various political parties, further underlining the Commission’s goal of inclusive electoral reforms through dialogue and participation.

The ECI is expected to continue this consultative approach in the coming months, especially in the lead-up to future elections, to ensure a transparent, participatory, and robust electoral system.
