New Delhi: Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan on Thursday released the Military Quantum Mission Policy Framework, a comprehensive policy and roadmap aimed at the induction and integration of quantum technologies across India’s Armed Forces. The framework is designed to prepare the Tri-Services for future battlefields and secure technological superiority in an increasingly complex and rapidly evolving global security environment.
The policy framework focuses on the systematic adoption of the four key pillars of quantum technology—Quantum Communication, Quantum Computing, Quantum Sensing and Metrology, and Quantum Materials and Devices—within the Armed Forces. By integrating these advanced capabilities, the mission seeks to enhance operational effectiveness, decision-making speed, secure communications and precision capabilities across all three services.

The vision document outlines a clear pathway to achieve synergy in the adoption of quantum technologies while ensuring alignment with the National Quantum Mission, of which the defence sector is a key stakeholder. It provides an indicative roadmap and policy guidelines for structured implementation, forming the foundation for incorporating cutting-edge quantum capabilities into military systems through coordinated efforts of the Army, Navy and Air Force.
Highlighting the strategic importance of quantum technologies from a defence perspective, the framework emphasises the urgent need for their timely assimilation to maintain an edge in future warfare. It identifies milestones and long-term goals to be achieved through civil-military fusion, supported by dedicated governance mechanisms involving stakeholders from multiple government sectors. The document also stresses the importance of jointness and integration among the services to effectively harness quantum technologies and achieve technological dominance on the future battlefield.

Senior military leadership was present at the release of the policy framework, including Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh and Chief of Integrated Defence Staff Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit.
The release of the Military Quantum Mission Policy Framework marks a significant step towards positioning India’s Armed Forces at the forefront of next-generation defence technologies, reinforcing preparedness, resilience and strategic superiority in the years ahead.
