- More than 2 lakh teachers and non-teaching staff to benefit
- Yogi govt committed to the dignity and social security of teachers
Lucknow: In the Cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, an important proposal related to the Higher Education Department was approved. Under this proposal, the government has decided to provide cashless medical facilities to teachers and non-teaching staff in the higher education sector.
Providing details, the state’s Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay said, “The Chief Minister is highly sensitive towards teachers and the education sector.”
Teachers play a vital role in nation-building and in strengthening the education system, yet they had not been provided with medical reimbursement facilities so far.
Taking this into account, the Chief Minister had announced on September 5, 2025, on the occasion of Teacher’s Day, that cashless medical facilities would be provided to teachers in higher education.
The minister stated that teachers working in aided non-government colleges under the Higher Education Department, including those engaged in regular and self-financed courses, teachers in self-financed recognized colleges, and teachers working in regular and self-financed courses in state universities will be covered under this scheme.
Additionally, on the instructions of the Chief Minister, non-teaching staff will also be included in the scheme.

Under this initiative, teachers and their dependent family members will be able to avail cashless medical treatment not only in government hospitals but also in empanelled private hospitals.
He further informed that the premium expenditure under the scheme will be ₹2,479.70 per teacher and non-teaching employee. More than 2 lakh teachers and non-teaching staff across the state will benefit from this initiative, and the government will incur an expenditure of approximately ₹50 crore annually. This expenditure will be managed through the budget of the Higher Education Department. The scheme will be implemented through the SACHIS.
Under the scheme, beneficiaries will be provided cashless medical treatment up to ₹5 lakh, with rates determined in accordance with the standards set under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and the National Health Authority.
The minister added, “Details of beneficiaries and their dependents will be provided annually by the Higher Education Department to SACHIS by June 30 each year. Individuals already covered under any other central or state government health scheme, such as the Pradhan Mantri or Mukhyamantri Arogya Yojana, will not be eligible for benefits under this scheme.”
He emphasized that the government under the leadership of the Chief Minister continues to take sensitive and proactive decisions for the dignity and social security of teachers and non-teaching staff. This scheme will prove to be an important step towards ensuring better health security for teachers, non-teaching staff, and their families.
