Cardiac Awareness Workshop at KGMU Highlights Life-Saving Role of CPR

Lucknow: A crucial Cardiac Awareness Workshop was held at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) Shatabdi Hospital, Phase-2, as part of the MED & SPARK North Zonal Conclave, organized by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) unit. The workshop centered on Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) training, equipping medical students and doctors with vital skills to respond effectively to cardiac emergencies.

The session was led by Dr. Vinita Dwivedi and Dr. Avdhesh Dwivedi, who began with a detailed theoretical overview, explaining each step of cardiac emergency response. This was followed by a hands-on practical session, where participants were trained through live demonstrations of CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and other emergency techniques. The structured approach allowed participants to gain both knowledge and confidence through practical application.

CPR – A Lifesaving Skill Beyond Hospitals

A highlight of the event was a keynote session on “The Life-Saving Importance of Cardiac Awareness and CPR,” delivered by Dr. Vishal Srivastava, Senior Cardiologist at Max Hospital, Lucknow. Drawing from clinical experience, he noted that cardiovascular diseases are rising at an alarming rate and stressed that “time is the most critical factor in a cardiac emergency.”

He emphasized that timely CPR can make the difference between life and death during sudden cardiac arrest. Dr. Srivastava further advocated that CPR knowledge must extend beyond the medical community, empowering ordinary citizens to act swiftly in emergencies.

Recognition and Community Support

In recognition of their contribution, Dr. Vinita Dwivedi, Dr. Avdhesh Dwivedi (Ayush Department), and Dr. Vishal Srivastava were felicitated with mementos.

The workshop also received strong support from collaborators including Dr. Sunil Yadav, Pharmacy Officer at Civil Hospital, the Khushi Foundation, and Max Hospital—reflecting a community-wide commitment to emergency preparedness and life-saving awareness.
