CAIT Reports Record-Breaking ₹6.05 Lakh Crore Business This Diwali

New Delhi: According to the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), India witnessed record-breaking sales this Diwali, with total festive business reaching ₹6.05 lakh crore, including ₹5.40 lakh crore in goods and ₹65,000 crore in services. The figures were released in CAIT’s comprehensive “Diwali Festival Sales 2025 Research Report”, based on a nationwide survey conducted across 60 major distribution hubs, including state capitals as well as Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.

Praveen Khandelwal, MP from Delhi’s Chandni Chowk and CAIT Secretary General, stated that the surge reflects the positive impact of rationalized GST policies and the growing adoption of Make in India initiatives, which motivated both traders and consumers.

Khandelwal highlighted that campaigns like “Vocal for Local” and “Swadeshi Diwali” resonated deeply, with 87% of consumers preferring Indian-made products over imported goods, leading to a sharp decline in demand for Chinese products. Traders reported a 25% increase in sales of Indian-made goods compared to last year.

The festive business this year showed a 25% growth over last year’s ₹4.25 lakh crore, with traditional and non-corporate retail markets contributing 85% of total sales, signaling a strong comeback for physical markets and small traders.
