Lucknow – Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has unveiled an ambitious roadmap to transform Uttar Pradesh’s urban landscape under the “Viksit UP @2047” vision, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Viksit Bharat @2047” mission. The plan aims to make every city in the state “smart” within the next 22 years and develop five international-level smart cities that will showcase UP globally as a hub of connectivity, investment, and quality living.
According to the vision, all cities will be equipped with 24×7 electricity, safe drinking water, pucca housing, modern public transport, and advanced metro and light metro services. A scientific sewage and waste management system is also a top priority, ensuring effective disposal, recycling, and pollution-free urban living.
Highlighting that urban development is about improving lives, not just infrastructure, CM Yogi said the goal is to create global-standard cities that rival the best in quality of life, investment opportunities, and connectivity.

Since 2017, the state has witnessed significant strides: 117 new urban local bodies have been created, 123 expanded, and 17 district headquarters upgraded under the Smart City Mission. The formation of the State Capital Region (SRC), comprising Lucknow and five surrounding districts, has given a new model of planned development. Special focus has been directed towards Purvanchal and Bundelkhand, long considered backward regions.

Programs such as the Aspirational City Plan and Mukhyamantri Nagar Srijan Yojana have led to construction of over 2,500 km of roads and 340 km of drainage networks across 240 urban bodies. These efforts mark a sharp contrast from the pre-2017 period when UP’s cities struggled with poor infrastructure, budget constraints, and unplanned expansion.
CM Yogi reaffirmed that by 2047, Uttar Pradesh will not only emerge as India’s most developed state but also as a global model for sustainable and inclusive urban growth.
