Lucknow : Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has launched a sharp attack on the BJP and Congress, accusing both parties of attempting to take credit for the Centre’s decision to conduct a caste-based census alongside the national population census. In a detailed post on social media platform X, the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister alleged that both parties are trying to project themselves as champions of OBC welfare, despite their “anti-Bahujan” track records.
“After a prolonged period of hesitation, the Centre has finally agreed to a caste-based census along with the national census. Now, BJP and Congress are scrambling to claim credit, trying to portray themselves as pro-OBC. But their history shows their anti-Bahujan character—this community still remains backward, exploited and deprived,” Mayawati wrote.
She further questioned the intentions of both national parties, stating, “Had the BJP and Congress truly had clean intent and inclusive policies towards the Bahujan Samaj, the OBC community would have become an equal stakeholder in the country’s development. This would have fulfilled the vision of Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, who stood for self-respect and dignity for all.”

Highlighting the BSP’s ongoing commitment to social justice, Mayawati asserted that it is only due to the relentless struggle of Dr. Ambedkar and the Bahujan Samaj Party that OBC communities have become increasingly aware and politically conscious. “Now, just like Dalits, these parties are desperate for OBC votes, which has forced them to pretend to be well-wishers. But it is clear—the real interest of the OBC community lies only in the BSP, not elsewhere,” she emphasized.

She ended her post with a powerful appeal to the electorate, invoking a popular Bahujan slogan: “Vot hamara, raj tumhara – nahin chalega” (Our vote, your rule – will not work anymore).

Calling for political awareness and self-reliance, she wrote: “The time has come to give true meaning to this humanist struggle and stand firmly on our own feet. Any laxity or negligence now would be dangerous.”
Mayawati’s post comes at a time when political discussions around caste census and OBC representation are intensifying ahead of key elections, with major parties trying to woo marginalized communities.
