New Delhi: Former Australian legendary bowler Brett Lee praised Sri Lankan pacer Mathisha Pathirana and said that he is a bowler born once in a generation. CSK secured their fourth win in IPL 2024 by defeating MI by 20 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Chennai set a target of 207 runs but despite Rohit Sharma’s unbeaten century, Mumbai could score only 186 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. While defending 206, Pathirana led CSK’s bowling department with a spell of (4-28). Pathirana won the title of Player of the Match on the basis of his game changing spell.
Pathirana opened his account of wickets in the match by giving the first blow to Mumbai in the form of Ishan Kishan (23) on a total score of 70 runs. After this, he gave the second blow in the same over by getting Suryakumar Yadav (0) caught by Mustafizur Rahman. Then, he also dismissed Tilak Verma (31) and Romario Shepherd (1), putting Mumbai on the backfoot. Pathirana took 4 wickets for just 28 runs in his quota of 4 overs.
Brett Lee said that he is a bowler born once in a generation. Maybe 2.0 in the case of the slinger, but he has bowled well once again against CSK. To bowl a 150 kmph ball right past the umpire’s chest is fantastic. Pathirana, who missed CSK’s last two matches due to a hamstring injury, has eight wickets to his name in the three matches he has played so far this season.
