Lucknow– Samajwadi Party national president and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, accusing it of completely failing to manage the power situation in Uttar Pradesh. He alleged that in nine years of governance, the BJP has not made any concrete efforts to improve electricity infrastructure, and is instead paving the way for privatization by deliberately crippling the system.
Speaking to media on Monday, Akhilesh Yadav said,
“The double-engine BJP government has done nothing to boost electricity production in the state. Demand is constantly increasing, but production remains stagnant. Not a single new unit has been added during their tenure. Whatever electricity the people of Uttar Pradesh are getting today is due to the power plants set up during the Samajwadi Party regime.”
Power Crisis Affecting Cities, Towns, and Farmers Alike
The former CM highlighted the worsening power cuts across the state, noting that even urban areas are facing massive unscheduled outages, while smaller towns and rural regions are in complete distress.
“Farmers are struggling with paddy transplantation and irrigation due to a lack of power. Their crops are suffering. This is the reality of BJP’s promises,” Yadav said.
“Privatization Agenda Behind Power Collapse”
Akhilesh accused the government of intentionally sabotaging the power sector, alleging that they are creating systemic failures to shift blame on staff and officers — a strategy, he claims, to justify handing over the power sector to private entities.
“The government’s entire focus is not on strengthening infrastructure but on handing over the system to private players under the pretext of mismanagement,” he added.
Power Cut at Energy Minister’s Own Event Highlights Crisis
In a dramatic turn, Yadav pointed to a recent incident in Moradabad, where Power Minister A.K. Sharma’s program itself was hit by a power outage.

“Even the minister couldn’t escape the darkness. If this doesn’t expose the government’s failure, what will?” he asked.
BJP Responsible for Collapse Across Sectors
Akhilesh Yadav didn’t stop at the power crisis. He accused the BJP government of failure in every key sector including education, healthcare, law and order, and public services.
“Every day, lakhs of people are living without electricity in this state. BJP has failed Uttar Pradesh on all fronts. The public is watching.”
Looking Ahead to 2027
Concluding his statement, the Samajwadi Party leader expressed confidence that the people of Uttar Pradesh will rise in 2027 and vote the BJP out of power.
“This government has betrayed every promise. In 2027, the people will bring about change and lay the foundation for a new era of development and accountability,” he said.
The issue of power shortages is fast becoming a political flashpoint in the state, with the SP expected to make it a central theme in its outreach campaigns ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
